Posted in PERSONAL | Tagged A small update: Hawaii ! SOUTH PACIFIC (I’m having a problem with the internet… it might be a while before I can post this). Leanne and I gave ours to some who didn’t get one (can you say “allergies” ?). We were each (the women) given a long-stemmed rose. Thanks for “tuning in.” I hope you all had a nice Valentine’s Day. Thanks for the notes and comments – I’m sorry I’m not responding, and not posting very much. I gave a short message in our church meeting this recent Sunday, and I have 3 more opportunities before we get to San Diego. It turns out that with Michael gone I was asked to give some talks. I’ve read 3 other books (we share with each other). I loved it that our taxi driver (to the Hertz place yesterday) was from Vietnam. Very well written, and we’ve learned a lot about what so many of those “boat people” went through. Leanne and I are reading one together of a Vietnamese family who escaped on a boat in around 1979 and ended up in Arkansas. Pretty unusual to have an old woman speaking their language and singing some songs. I’m continuing to have a LOT of fun using some Tagalog with the workers from the Philippines, and Bahasa with those from Indonesia. Nice being on shore and seeing a marvelous banyan tree (like a group of trees) and lots of tourist attractions (shops and such-like).Īnd now back on the boat. We have seen several WHALES! Frolicking! Such fun!!! One breeched and others just splashed around. It was great having time with them! (I’m going to try to post some pictures). I ate a whole papaya (with lime juice) – I have been SO disappointed that the only place I’d had papaya so far was in Samoa can’t figure out why they don’t have it on the ship!). She and her daughter Elysia treated us to a delightful lunch on their porch, and we had a great visit. Leanne and I rented a car (we’d seen the local sites several times, so we didn’t join the group for Pearl Harbor, the PCC, and other stops) and drove to the Laie Temple and enjoyed the noon session.Īnd then we drove to visit my niece Wendy, who lives in Kailua. So beautiful!! The mountains fascinate me! A long but good day. And the rest of us will have another 5 sea days on our way to San Diego! More are flying from here (Maui) later today. They flew home around noon, and Michael and others later in the day. We laughed so hard during his lecture on Mark Twain! Some of our group left yesterday, including our dear friends Tyna and Jeff Bean. And the lectures by Michael Wilcox have been fantastic. We slept, we ate (and ate and ate), and the six of us found a great place to sit and play games (I brought “Bananagram,” and others had difference games). Great to see the moon rise, and some sun rises. But it’s been so amazing to look out as far as you can see, and it’s still the Pacific Ocean (larger than ALL the land masses joined together!). I guess there wasn’t too much to tell about our 5 sea days. I know it’s been quite a while since I’ve posted anything. The built-in version with Visual Studio seems pretty good. I have also used kdiff 3 and a few others in the past, but it has been a long while. I like that I can have different projects for each codebase. PhotoSweeper doesn’t only work with photos, btw, but also videos and PDFs. I use it often for folder and file diffs. My brief description of it definitely doesn’t do it justice, so if you’re trying to deduplicate photos I’d recommend checking it out-it’s paid, but they have a quite limited trial that will allow you to see if it’ll work for your use case. One challenge for me was to keep the versions of photos and videos that had the correct creation timestamps, and it made it much easier than any other tool that I’ve tried (it surfaces much more metadata about the photos when reviewing the duplicates). It’s just so much more customizable, plus it can search your entire Apple Photos library in a much better way than Gemini (works with photos not stored on your Mac as long as you’re comparing photos that look like each other, not exactly the same file-but this of course also includes exact replicas), and much more. Not sure how well known it is among the community, so sharing just in case it could help someone out as it did for me. The good news is that specifically for photo deduplication I’ve found PhotoSweeper to be way better than anything else I’ve come across. If anyone has found a better tool by now, please share! I’ve found that if I compare the relevant subfolders again afterward it finds more duplicates, but that’s quite labor-intensive, and the duplicates may not be located in a similar folder structure anyway. That sucks because it’s pretty poor at finding all duplicates, especially when comparing large folders. The bad news is that I’ve still not found a better general-purpose deduplication tool than Gemini. Sorry for reviving an old thread, but since I’ve been looking for a better alternative to Gemini II lately and have partially succeeded I figured I’d finally join the forum (I’ve been lurking for a while) to share my findings… Top Alternatives to Beyond Compare for Mac Beyond Compare Double Commander Synkron Apimac Secret Folder Midnight Commander Wireshark Mac Free Screen. heic files (I may be wrong, but this newer file format might not be in its coded ability to “see”). Is there a more modern utility than Gemini II? I don’t think it can properly “see” the. … BUT there has to be a way to automate this. jpgs with duplicates and (CTL+selecting the others) grabbing just the intermittent JPGs and deleting them. I spent some time physically highlighting the. It’s not as easy as “sorting by type and deleting a chunk of JPGs” because there are some JPGs in there without a corresponding. The name was used by a few other gentes, including the gens Publilia, who used the form Volero, but the memory of Volesus, first of the Valerii, was the most enduring. The family also revived the praenomen from time to time, after it had fallen out of general use, as late as the 1st century AD. For the Latin personal name, see Volesus (praenomen). The praenomen Volesus was also used occasionally by the Valerii, who also used it as a cognomen, usually with the spelling Volusus. This page is about the ancestor of the Valerii. The few historical mentions of him imply that he was a powerful warrior, which would explain his presence in the retinue of Titus Tatius, although his character may also have been suggested by his name, which was believed to derive from the Latin verb, valere, to be strong, or its Oscan cognate. Little is known of Volesus, but it is generally assumed that he was himself a Sabine, and that he came from the town of Cures. He is said to have come to Rome with Titus Tatius, king of the Sabine town of Cures, during the reign of Romulus, the founder and first king of Rome. The BBC explains why and embeds the trailer in the webpage. The tv show Breaking Bad featured the poem "Ozymandias" in a trailer for the final season. This website shows the statue of Ramses II (Ozymandias), the discovery of which may have inspired Shelley's poem. Shelley first published "Ozymandias" in The Examiner in 1818, under the name "Glirastes." This is a scan of the first edition printing. The Bodleian Library at Oxford University digitized and transcribed an early draft of "Ozymandias" from 1817 and made it available online. By analyzing this sonnet's diction, imagery, and themes, it will be easy to see why. The British Library has a short introduction to "Ozymandias" that includes excerpts of potential sources for the poem, historical information about Ramses II (Ozymandias), as well as details about Shelley's radical politics. Published 1818, Percy Shelley's 'Ozymandias' centers on the ruins of Egyptian pharaoh Rameses II's statue. The overall message of this poem is power is never permanent even if Rameses II a ruler who thought his powers were everlasting, it can be taken over by the most innocent of things.British Library's "Introduction to Ozymandias" At his house near Marlowe on Saturday 27 December 1817, the day after Boxing Day, Shelley entertained. The occasion of its composition is now well known. It had apparently been written barely two weeks earlier. It’s abandoned which shows that the current population doesn’t care about an outdated king’s statue. About Ozymandias: The great sonnet was published on 11th January 1818 on page 24 of number 524 of Leigh Hunt’s ‘The Examiner’. There aren’t many visitors that visit this site as it’s isolated. The other 3 phrases “boundless and bare”, “lone and level”, “sands stretch far away” all show how the king has been overruled by nature and art. Major Themes: The poem comprises the emotions. Nowadays there are many statues so there is insignificance about this statue. However, what stays in the minds of the readers is the impact of the transience of life and the permanence of art. Even though the statue is massive it is still a wreck, therefore, it’s a forgotten ruin. The statue was carved as a tribute to Ramses II, a powerful. “Of that colossal wreck links back to the beginning phrase “vast and trunkless legs”. Ozymandias statue once stood in the pinnacle of civilization and human progress, ancient Egypt. “Round the decay” suggests that he’s nothing but a ruin. The metaphor suggests that he’s so significant that without him, his population would die.įrom Line 13 – 15 there was a contrast from the beginning explaining how nature and time had taken the king’s power away. “The heart that fed” indicates that people depend on him for them to be alive. His power made him get away with his wrongdoings. Since this was a ruin, it’s not easy to understand the ruins in detail but passerby’s if any would be able to understand that there was once a monarchy in the area, they’re in.įollowing on, the cite “The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed” portrays the king being a man who made fun of his own people. Linking with the last paragraph, the phrase “Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things gives the impression the king’s alive because of his statue which may be an accurate representation of his personality although he was dead several years ago. Ozymandias is first and foremost a metaphor for the ephemeral nature of political power, and in that sense the poem is Shelleys most outstanding political. It shows the effect of how art can conquer power. He intended to ridicule his leader by art. A passion is a strong emotion, a strong emotion could be hatred, this is the only example of a strong emotion the sculptor has towards the king. Another clue to the sculptor’s hatred towards the king was “Tell that it’s sculptor well those passions read”. Along with the negative connotations, it’s fair to say that the sculptor disliked the king because this is an unflattering depiction of him. Throughout the text, there are negative connotations about the king. In line 5 the quote “wrinkled lip and sneer” may imply that the king was arrogant. Time has passed and part of the structure is still standing, not completely ruined. This phrase shows that even without the body the legs alone are huge enough. The statue says a lot about Rameses II the king, his attitude, and how he ruled.įirstly, the phrase “vast and trunkless” suggests the statue was large but “trunkless” meaning that it’s without a body. Power is presented in Ozymandias by a king’s statue. If you see inaccuracies in our content, please report the mistake via this form. I am fairly inexperienced with shotgun ownership, but I want to make sure that myself and my wife can use it reliably when our well being is on the line. Since it's brand new, should I send it to Mossberg, or should I just have a local gunsmith have a look? Maybe upgrade some parts off the bat? Check for broken or bad parts? Some have suggested that I polish the bore and see how that works. I know that Winchester shells are known to get stuck, and I intend to inspect my weapon after the waiting period ends next week, but I was curious what do you all recommend I do to fix this issue? I put about 25 rounds through the gun but I immediately noticed that after a few rounds shot, the slide became "stuck" and would only eject the spent shell after jiggling the slide a bit and pulling back forcefully. I am in the middle of DROSing a 590A1 #50676 (I know, the USSM logo is kind of cheesy - but it was on sale), and the range that is doing the transfer actually let me have a go at it (With their AMMO, Winchester Super X). Naturally, Mossberg came to mind as it provides a lot of gun for the buck. Close and lock the chamber, deactivate the safety, point in a safe direction and dry fire. Then activate the safety and hit the slide unlock button while opening the chamber to ensure it's empty. Now that I have a family, I thought it a good idea to purchase a shotgun for home defense. Mossberg released what would become one of its most well-recognized product lines in 1961, namely, the Model 500 series of pump-action shotguns. Try racking the pump open and closed to a lock. With a scope, in areas where only shotgun hunting is allowed, a Mossberg 590 would be a fantastic deer hunting gun. Even though I’ve never hunted with slugs, I could hit 50 yard and 100 yard targets with relative ease. There was hardly any stiffness at all, and that should only improve with use.I have never owned a shotgun other than a Winchester 13oo that I had (hardly fired) and sold many years ago. Out of the box, the 590 shoots slugs and buckshot with deadly accuracy. The pump-action was quite smooth for a new gun. I wasn’t so interested in breaking clay targets(though the gun shot surprisingly accurate on speeding clays) as I wanted to find out if the gun would fail when I brought it to my shoulder. I shot several rounds of low-gun skeet with target loads to see if the gun would malfunction. Mossberg 590 Pump Action Mag Tubes: Extensions and Springs.
